Easter Saturday saw me working at the Vintage Fashion Fair at the Paintworks, Bristol. It was a bitterly cold day with snow in the air. There were not as many traders there as normal because of it being Easter. We had a few customers but it was definitely a lot quieter than previous times. We had plenty of time to sit and ponder on life and wonder what it is about this business that keeps us getting up at 5 a.m. in the morning and driving hundreds of miles. The answer is of course that we are gluttons for punishment and also we enjoy it. There are so many interesting people crossing our paths and it is good to know that these old things that we love so much are going on to new keepers and new lives. Even the things that are wrecked and well past their sell by date have a use and are taken and transformed into beautiful and new creations by talented and inventive Textile artists, embroiderers and costume makers. This is turning recycling into an art form and long may it last.
